Our team of volunteers is made up of a variety of Don's and Donette's from throughout the community. We could not make this possible without their endless hard work and determination to make this the best event possible!
This is an event that, we in the Kenosha softball community hold very close to our hearts. Our dear friend and lifelong softball player, Steve “Blade” Hess, was taken from us far too soon after a short battle with aggressive pancreatic cancer.
In originally planning this tournament, we pulled together all things that Steve loved - his family, his friends, his community, softball, bags, food, drinks, and helping others. Steve was the type of person that led by example, showing his friends and teammates how to, not only be exemplary on the field, but also to do the same in the field of life. Today, the HESS Memorial Foundation’s purpose is to carry forth his legacy.
This year we have chosen one of Kenosha's finest, Tim Hackbarth to help in his fight against prostate cancer.
Tim first learned he had a very aggressive form of prostate cancer in the summer of 2024. As with all things medical, things move slower than desired and frustration sets in when trying to set up treatment. Round trip driving 2 hours to see a doctor and surgery team, waiting and waiting for responses, and lack of equipment and inabilities of one surgery team led to trying other doctors and facilities. More doctors, more complication, and delay in treatment with attempt to find care. Finally help was found in the team at Mayo Hospital in Minneapolis where he has been battling for his life for the next two years. This money will help to offset some of the costs of travel and medical expenses, in addition to helping to support his family.
For background, Tim is a Sensitive Crimes Detective who specializes in child sexual assault. He has spent many years tracking down and detaining those sick individuals who commit these disgusting crimes. Tim is a strong Christian man who practices his faith by helping and loving others. It is now the communities turn to return the favor.
